Pennsylvania Car Crash Statistics

Far too often, individuals negligently get behind the wheel and drive while:

  • Intoxicated
  • Distracted
  • Fatigued
  • Or otherwise impaired

Unfortunately, this leads to countless accidents each year, many of which result in significant injuries.

Below, our team has provided some stats regarding auto accidents in Pennsylvania to outline just how dangerous it is. Unfortunately, despite knowing the causes of accidents and just how much harm can arise, many people still perform negligent acts.

The Numbers

The most recent numbers stem from the year 2018, but they show potential concerns when compared to the years prior.

Here’s how they stack up:

  • In 2018, there were 128,420 reported crashes in Pennsylvania. This is an increase in over 7,000 total crashes from 2014, but just a few hundred more than in 2017.
  • From 2014 to 2018, the number of suspected serious injuries increased from 3,042 to 4,534. The number was also an increase from 2017 when there were 4,227 suspected serious injuries.
  • The number of alcohol-related fatalities dropped from 333 in 2014 to 293 in 2017, but 2018 saw an increase to 331.
  • There has also been an increase in the total number of pedestrian accidents from 166 in 2014 to 201 in 2018.

While many of the accidents that do occur involve no injuries, there are some that are significantly dangerous, and people may suffer lifelong harm. Whenever someone is negligent and you suffer what the law considers to be a severe injury, you have legal rights to pursue compensation for the damages sustained.
