Since entering private practice in 1988, John Lucas has built a career handling a wide range of legal matters for individuals and businesses. His experience spans litigation, transactional work, land use and zoning, personal injury, real estate, construction and commercial matters. The circumstances change from case to case, but John’s motivation stays the same. He doesn’t like seeing people get taken advantage of.

Today, John’s practice reflects the breadth of experience he has built throughout his career. He handles transactional matters and land use and zoning issues, along with a broad range of litigation involving construction, commercial disputes, real estate and insurance. He also supports the firm’s personal injury practice, particularly when a matter can benefit from his decades of litigation and insurance experience.

When John does represent individuals in disputes with insurance companies, his work is on the side of the consumer. He understands that taking on an insurance company or simply getting a lawyer involved can feel intimidating, especially for someone who has never been through the legal process before. His goal is to take as much stress and burden off the client as possible, handle the legal issues in front of them and make the process feel far more manageable than they expected.

Over the course of his career, John has handled cases involving automobile and tractor-trailer accidents, wrongful death, construction accidents, product and premises liability, medical negligence and other serious injuries. His experience also includes complex real estate disputes and commercial litigation throughout Pennsylvania.

John’s broad experience also gives him perspective from several sides of a dispute. Earlier in his career, he represented insurance companies and self-insured corporations and taught insurance rules and regulations. He understands how insurers evaluate claims, negotiate settlements and approach litigation, experience that now helps him anticipate the issues clients may face.

John earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton and his law degree from Duquesne University School of Law. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania. His work has also taken him beyond Pennsylvania, where he has been admitted pro hac vice to handle individual matters in other jurisdictions.

Outside his legal practice, John has a long history of volunteering his time, particularly with adaptive sports programs. While living in Pittsburgh, he volunteered with Challenger Baseball, a program that gives children with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball. Today, he participates in a tennis buddy program for players with Down syndrome and serves on the board of directors of the Scranton Tennis Club.
